Queensland’s Kennedy Region took advantage of the King’s Birthday long weekend to host a Region-wide Jamboree.
Their annual Scout Section Region Camp was held in Townsville, Queensland, from 4 to 7 October 2024, and was exclusively for Scouts and Venturers attending AJ2025.
“The camp was run like a small-scale Jamboree,” said Christopher ‘Crispy’ Dibbs, Charter Towers Scout Leader. “We operated with two Units, each led by Scout Leaders already appointed as Jamboree Unit Leaders for the event.”
Almost 50 Kennedy Scouts and Venturers formed two Units and subsequent Patrols. Each Patrol took their turn as Duty Patrol – like they will at Jamboree. They were introduced to Jamboree Duties – including waking up early to prepare breakfast and lunch, collecting food for their Unit from central storage, and washing laundry by hand in buckets.
Along with the responsibilities of a well-run Patrol, the Scouts and Venturers also got to enjoy the taste of independence. During the weekend, they caught busses to offsite activities and learned how to navigate a city and catch public transport – without Leaders! The Patrols made their own way to several locations around Townsville, including Loam Island, Pimlico, and The Strand.
It’s safe to say that Kennedy Region is keen and ready for AJ2025! See you in Maryborough!
